February 23rd-March 1st Training

Monday: 5.5 miles (7:20ish)

Tuesday: 6.3 miles (7:15ish); 3.7 miles (7:45ish)

Wednesday: 7.7 miles (6:50); 4.8 miles (7:18)

Thursday: 5.4 miles (6:56).  Planned on doing 8-9 with a shorter second run but my hamstring started flaring up after a long downhill.

Friday: No running. Hamstring starting to hurt more

Saturday: 7.2 miles (7:02). Was planning on doing around 9-10 but my hamstring started hurting a lot after 5.5 miles.

Sunday: No running

Week Total: 40.6 miles. My hamstring went from better, to worse.  I was hoping to be able to run 12-14 miles for a long run by the end of the week but I don't want to force it.  It was getting significantly better but since it started regressing, I need to play it safe.

Hopefully this week is better.  I'm debating making some changes to my spring schedule and delaying my marathon a few months if things don't get better by the end of the week.

I also bought these tools and have been doing my poor man's Graston/IASTM/ASTYM every other day, in hopes it gets better.

Normally injuries irritate me but this hamstring issue has got me pretty down since things were starting to click and I was really motivated.

  2. Any experience with Dry needling? I have found it to be very helpful with lower leg issues, and a few colleagues of mine have had personal success with hamstring issues... Currently, TN physical therapists are not doing it based upon a legislative issue... Kentucky and NC P.T.s do, and some acupuncturists do it... If you continue to have issues, I would give it a try... The hamstrings are not hard to do.. There is no risk involved in that region, other than soreness, and it can be effective in ways that our hands simply cannot

  3. I don't expect to be at Tom King but then again, I don't expect anyone to be there. Best case scenario is maybe the 5k will go on.

I've also had a lot of friends who have had success with dry needling. There's a really good sports chiro near me who does it but he's out of network for me. I may look around in Nashville for it.

  4. Yeah I'm pretty disappointed since Tom king is my target race and I'm in great shape / tapered for it. Even if the race goes on, snow and ice on the greenway will likely make an all out effort unrealistic and kill the times. I guess we could have a 2000 runner 5k.

  5. Sorry you're struggling with this. Hamstrings are the worst.

How do you like Better Call Saul?
